I am a proud historical African Nova Scotian with deep roots in the Black community of New Glasgow. My heritage and lived experiences have shaped my unwavering commitment to advocating for equity, inclusion, and meaningful change for individuals from marginalized populations. Helping others and fostering positive social impact are my greatest passions, and they drive everything I do.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), and a Master of Social Work (MSW). My diverse academic background reflects my holistic approach to supporting individuals and communities. Through my studies, I developed a strong foundation in understanding the intersection of recreation, social work, and community well-being. This unique perspective allows me to address systemic barriers while promoting empowerment and resilience among those I serve.
Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to helping people navigate challenges and achieve their goals. My work has focused on advocating for individuals from marginalized and underrepresented communities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. Whether working one-on-one with individuals or collaborating with organizations, I strive to create spaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported.
As the new Associate Registrar for the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, I am thrilled to take on a role that aligns so closely with my values and passions. In this position, I am committed to fostering meaningful collaboration and driving initiatives that promote equity and inclusion within the social work profession. I see this role as an opportunity to not only support social workers in their professional journeys but also to contribute to systemic change that benefits the broader community.
My approach to my work is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized populations. I believe in the power of collaboration and am dedicated to building strong relationships with social workers, community members, and stakeholders. By working together, I aim to create a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
In addition to my professional work, I am a passionate advocate for the Black community in Nova Scotia. I draw inspiration from my heritage and the resilience of my ancestors, using their stories as a source of strength and motivation in my work. Honoring their legacy is important to me, and I am committed to continuing the fight for justice, equity, and meaningful change.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy connecting with my community, exploring Nova Scotia’s beautiful landscapes, and spending time with family and friends. I believe in the importance of self-care and recreation as essential components of overall well-being, and I incorporate these values into both my personal and professional life.
I am excited to bring my passion, expertise, and dedication to the Associate Registrar role at NSCSW. I look forward to working with social workers across the province to create meaningful change, foster collaboration, and ensure that the profession continues to uphold its commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.
