Continuing our Joint Professional Development Series

The Nova Scotia College of Social Workers is proud to continue partnering with the Diversity and Equity Committee (DEC) at the Dalhousie School of Social Work on our joint professional development series that began in January 2023.

This series creates a collective forum where social work students, social work practitioners and social work faculty can come together to discuss important issues related to diversity and equity within social work and beyond. We hope to help bridge the gap between academia and practice.

Panel series schedule

Please mark your calendars now for the first two events, and stay tuned for more information as details for each panel are finalized.

All panel discussions with the DEC will be held through Microsoft Teams, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Atlantic time. These events are not recorded, in order to facilitate free discussion among participants.

Professional development

Participating in this conversation series is eligible to be included in the annual inventory of professional development activities that NSCSW members provide to the College during annual renewal.

All sessions of this series are suitable for the required training that Nova Scotia social workers must now complete related to anti-discriminatory & anti-racist practice. Sessions that relate specifically to issues related to Indigenous communities and decolonization will be also eligible for meeting the requirement for training or activities that fulfill our Truth & Reconciliation professional development commitments. Members who have already completed both of these requirements may track their participation as formal professional development instead.

If you are interested in helping to organize a professional development event yourself, please contact [email protected].
