The purpose of the workshop is to build trauma awareness by reviewing common definitions, types, and impacts of trauma as well as exploring research. The workshop will explore the key principles of trauma informed care and how they can be applied to generalist social work settings. The sessions will also review how social workers are impacted by trauma and how to mitigate the effects of working in trauma exposed environments.

Social workers and helping professionals know so much about burn-out and compassion fatigue. This is a workshop on how to heal oneself from workplace impacts.

This workshop will outline the difference between Basic Income and current systems. Social workers will be introduced to contrasting Basic Income models, using the NSCSW code of ethics as a guideline.

Avalon Centre’s Sexualized Violence and Healing Centered Support training will include an element of networking and encourage active sharing of knowledge and resources between participants, with the goal of building more connected communities of service providers and streamlined supports for survivors of gender-based violence.

A one day workshop where participants will explore an Indigenous worldview with a Truth and Reconciliation lens, which includes education about First Nations protocol, experiencing exclusion, inter-generational trauma in society, alliance and partnership-building and breaking myths and stereotypes.

NSCSW is holding a panel discussion the evening before our public symposium. All stakeholders involved with the child welfare system are welcome. Five professionals will share their diverse experiences and perspectives regarding child welfare during a moderated discussion, followed by a public Q&A.

Social Work Camp was created to provide a reasonably priced continuing education opportunity where we can also unwind, rejuvenate, have fun, and return to work feeling inspired.

The NSCSW is inviting all stakeholders to join us for a child welfare symposium on June 15, 2019 to explore alternative policy and program options to in order to advocate for change to this crucial system.
