Mar 1, 2024 — Please join us as we kick off a month of exciting events for National Social Work Month! The scope of our profession is broad, and our members and their communities across the province are incredibly diverse, but this year’s theme identifies common values that bring us together and lay a foundation for safer social work practice.

1 Feb, 2024 — The 2024 African Heritage Month theme is Our Smiles, Our Joy, Our Resilience as African Nova Scotians. We invite social workers to celebrate and recognize the history and culture of people of African descent.

Feb 29 — Join Dr. Ifeyinwa Mbakogu and her research team as they share the findings of their research with youth of African Descent (and their caregivers) who have interacted with or sought access to mental health and substance use services in Nova Scotia, as well as with mental health and substance use service providers in Nova Scotia.

Feb 28, 2024 — Vicent Mousseau, RSW, will discuss the concepts of Afropressimism and Black joy, and invite us consider their implications for social work.

Jan 18, 2024 — This interdisciplinary series offers professional development and networking opportunities to support allied health professionals in co-creating better outcomes for the people and communities we serve.

Feb 14 — Considering BDSM through the lens of social work ethics. Let’s talk about its history and place in culture, the radical potential of ritual and performance, and the importance of autonomy and consent.

Feb 7, 2024 — Join us to learn about a new treatment modality that is being used for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Jan 31, 2024 — Big Ideas in Mental Health is a panel discussion series hosted by the NSCSW Social Justice Committee. Join us to discuss the psychosocial, spiritual and structural factors surrounding death and dying in Nova Scotia. (originally scheduled for Sep 20, 2023 and postponed)
